Privacy & tracking
You don't need an account to use this documentation. The site keeps a few of your choices in your browser, and – only if you agree – uses Google Analytics to learn which pages help and which don't.
What's stored in your browser
These are choices you make on this site. They stay in your browser, are never sent to us, and need no consent because they only do what you asked for. Nothing is stored until you use a feature.
- Light or dark mode – the colour mode you picked.
- Your settings (⚙ in the top bar) – role, text size, top menu style, glossary tooltips, saved pages.
- "Was this page helpful?" answered – so we don't ask again on that page.
- Announcements you closed – so they stay closed.
- Your cookie choice – a cookie that remembers whether you accepted analytics.
On a shared computer, the next person using this browser can see these settings, for example your saved pages. Use Reset my settings below or under ⚙ Settings to clear them.

What we track – only if you accept analytics cookies
If you choose Accept All (or switch analytics on under Settings in the cookie notice), the site loads Google Analytics. Until then, nothing is sent.
| What | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pages you view | The page address and title, plus interactions Google Analytics measures automatically, such as scrolling to the end of a page, file downloads (for example the Power BI templates), links to other sites and plays of embedded videos. | See which pages are read, which are hard to find, and which are never opened. |
| Searches | What you searched for, how many results there were and which result you opened. The search words are also part of the results page address, which is sent like any other page address. Email addresses are removed from it, so don't type other personal details, such as phone numbers, into search. | Find topics that are missing (searches with no results) and searches that lead to the wrong page. |
| "Was this page helpful?" | Yes or No, and after a No the reason you picked (hard to follow, missing information, out of date, not what you were looking for). There is no text field. | Know which pages to rewrite first, and why. |
| Your device | Browser, operating system, screen size, language, the site that linked you here, and your approximate location (country or city). Google Analytics 4 doesn't store IP addresses. | Make sure the site works on the devices and browsers you use. |
We don't collect names, email addresses or anything you type outside the search box, and your settings above are never sent. Google Analytics recognises a returning browser with the cookies _ga and _ga_… (Google's default lifetime: up to 2 years). Reports show totals and trends; we don't look up individual visitors. Google Analytics deletes the detailed data about visits after 14 months; only the totals in standard reports are kept longer.
What tracking has helped us with
A few examples of how the numbers turn into better documentation:
- Pages nobody reads. Analytics showed that a handful of pages – for example some Power BI report pages – get very few visits. They are now being reviewed, to make them easier to find or to merge them into pages people already read.
- Searches with no results. Each one is a topic readers expect and we don't cover yet, or cover under a different word. We review them and add pages or search synonyms (for example, "disposition code" also finds completion codes).
- "Was this page helpful?" answers. Pages with many "No – hard to follow" answers are the first to be rewritten; "Out of date" answers point to pages that need checking against the current product.
- Checking our own changes. When we add start pages for each guide, we compare visits before and after to see whether readers reach the right guide faster.
Feedback and search measurement started in October 2026; the first review of that data is planned for November 2026.
Your choices
- Change your analytics choice anytime with Change cookie preferences above (also under ⚙ Settings). Switching analytics off deletes the Google Analytics cookies.
- Clear your settings with Reset my settings.
- Blocking cookies and site data in your browser also works; the documentation stays fully usable.
This page covers the documentation site only.
